All adult members in the group are volunteers. There is always room for more volunteers! The adults belong to three categories:
-Warranted Scouters and,
-Adult Helpers/Applicants who work with your children directly and lead the different units in the Group. Meerkats, Cubs and -Scouts.
-Group Committee Members who enable the Unit operations by taking care of the facilities, equipment and finances.
Our actions are governed by Scouts South Africa’s policies and procedures. We are answerable to our District Commissioner, who answers to the Regional Commissioner who answers to the National Commissioner, who answers to the Scouts South Africa Management Committee. Scouts South Africa is affiliated to the World Organisation of Scout Movements(WOSM).
Youth Members are expected to maintain these standards:
-Active Commitment
-Progressive Skill Mastery
-Living the Scout Law
Parents are expected to build collaborative, respectful partnerships with adult leaders:
-Respect and Courtesy
-Support and Autonomy
-Safety and Compliance
Now that we have the ground rules in place, we are facing three major challenges.
We have a shortage of warranted scouters. Without warranted scouters the 2nd Hout Bay Group will close down.
Secondly, we have low levels of participation in camps and events, with many last minute withdrawals.
Lastly, we don’t actively make use of the Training Courses offered to progress Scouts through specific levels – Traveller, Discoverer, First Class and Springbok.
To this end we are working hard on our communications to make sure there is awareness of these opportunities.
